Don't Let Your House Style Be a Turn off for Buyers Warns Online Retailer Ironmongery Online

A West Midands-based retailer is warning homeowners that they may be left behind in the property boom if there home doesn’t match up to buyer’s expectations. The comments from online ironmonger and hardware specialist Ironmongery Online follows research from property specialists that revealed the top ‘turn-offs’ for potential property buyers.

Stourbridge, UK -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/09/2014 -- The list of turn-offs was headed by woodchip wallpaper, mirrored ceilings and nude portraits! Despite their popularity with some, hot tubs were also among the top ten list of features that would put a would-be buyer off, according to the research. An avocado bathroom suite, a collection of stuffed, dead animals and have-a-go 1980s paint effects such as rag-rolling and stencilling were also among the features that house-hunters would be most put-out to find.

Vicky Tomline, head of Sales and Marketing at Ironmongery Online said this week “The list is good fun but it points to a very important factor when selling your home – even in a growing market buyers remain very picky. In fact, when buyers believe house prices are on the up they will actually pay over-the-odds for houses that have the features they value.”

If your home has features from the ‘not wanted’ list, Vicky can offer some good news. “It often takes more imagination than money to help you make the most of your home. Small changes and updates can make a big difference without breaking the bank.”

One such area is the much discussed idea of ‘kerb appeal’. The NeedAProperty research revealed a smart car in the driveway was ‘a big plus’ but there is no need to invest in a Rolls Royce according to Vicky “There are lots of simple ways to make sure you improve your ‘kerb appeal’ – smartening up with a lick of paint and adding some stylish new door furniture won’t cost much and can be a big help in getting buyers through the door.”
