Door Furniture Adds Kerb Appeal, Boosts Value Says Ironmongery Online

The UK property market has reported continued price growth, leading some in the sector to warn off a ‘natural correction’ as some lenders make borrowing more difficult in an attempt to take the heat out of the market.

Stourbridge, Worcestershire -- (ReleaseWire) -- 05/29/2014 -- The most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed average property values increased by 8% in the year to March to £252,000, down slightly from the 9.2% rise recorded a month earlier. Whilst reporting record profits, Nationwide Building Society has warned the London housing market may face a "natural correction". The mutual's chief executive, Graham Beale said there was already a "slowing down in the market place".

In the light of these figures a leading supplier of door furniture and hardware has reminded sellers of the importance of kerb appeal. Vicky Tomline, Head of Sales and Marketing at Ironmongery Online, said this week “In a rising property market kerb appeal actually adds value to a property, but even if sales volumes fall kerb appeal will help the property stand out against the competition.”

Many factors make up ‘kerb appeal’. Lindsey Cuthill of top estate agent Savills claims "A house with real kerb appeal lifts your spirit – it's a house where the front garden is well-presented, the railing is in perfect condition, the door immaculately painted, perhaps with roses growing over it."

Factors include the look of the front garden and driveway, the state of any fencing, walls or railings and external lighting. One major factor is the state of external paintwork and door furniture. As Vicky says “A recent report in The Telegraph confirmed that good quality door furniture was a great investment – boosting kerb appeal and ultimately helping achieving a swift sale or boosting the value of the property. And there is even more good news – good quality door hardware and furniture has never been better value or easier to obtain.”
