Dr. Paul Nielsen Announces Gruesome Debut Novel Based on Real-Life Ghost Story

Early readers have compared him to Stephen King, which certainly makes new author Paul Nielsen one to watch. With the release of his first novel, ‘The Cambion’, Nielsen has blended the medical and horror genres with satisfyingly spooky results.

Parkersburg, WV -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/04/2014 -- Parkersburg, West VA – While on a visit to Gettysburg years ago, Dr. Paul Nielsen and his wife encountered a ghost, and that brush with the afterlife spurred Nielsen into writing what will be his first novel, ‘The Cambion’, published by Glass Page Books.

Tracing the path of a young ER physician and her husband who visit Gettysburg and get a bit more than they bargained for, ‘The Cambion’ is a uniquely terrifying horror story that early readers have compared to the works of Stephen King. Drawing heavily on environment, much like King does with his native Maine, Nielsen’s prose is visceral, getting straight to the gut of what makes for a frightening tale.

“What makes it even scarier is that it’s partially based on fact,” says Dr. Nielsen, who drew on his own decades of experience in the ER while writing the character of Dr. Carmichael. “Not only did the initial plotline spark from the ghostly encounter my wife and I had at Gettysburg, but the orphanage, its Mistress and her link to murdered children is based on historical fact.”

Raw, bone chilling and sensual, ‘The Cambion’ will weave a seductive spell over readers that many may not escape from…

Synopsis:

When Dr. Beth Carmichael and her husband visit Gettysburg, they discover much more than Civil War history. Beth's connection with a previous life emerges when she encounters the ghost of a young boy whom she realizes to be her son from ages past, killed by the cruel mistress of an orphanage. When the boy's ghost trails the couple home, something else comes with him, something they would all have preferred remained at the battlefield: the demon who ran the brutal orphanage, the demon who killed the boy, the demon who wants them all in its grasp now and forever. Through seductive night visits to Beth's husband, the cambion moves into their midst, tearing through the fabric of their reality, threatening all that they hold dear. With the help of a paranormal researcher, Beth may have a way to save them all, but at a gruesome price.

Since its publication, the book has earned a 5 star rating on Amazon, and glowing reviews from readers.

“One of the best horror stories I've ever read. The only one that comes close is from Stephen King, but I think even SK would be envious of this one. Dr. Paul Nielsen's medical knowledge truly highlights this novel from beginning to end. A page turner, truly, and one I will not forget,” wrote P.L. Alexander.

As the author explains, while he was interested in crafting a story that would have readers burning the midnight oil as they raced through the pages, he also wanted to create a strong character in Dr. Beth Carmichael.

“She’s not a damsel in distress,” says Nielsen. “After she connects to her former life and encounters the ghost of her son, her whole life is upended, but she finds inner fortitude to soldier on, and in truth, since the demon wants the soul of her husband, Dr. Carmichael has to be the one that saves the day. She has to be the one to face down the demon and in the end, she can be thankful the nightmare is over.”
Nielsen smiles. “Or is it?”
