A long-lasting high inflation rate, a retraction of consumption in the first months of 2013, a loss of competitiveness and increasing costs that negatively affected industrial production and regional economies led to a reduction in confidence in the economy and had a negative impact on consumption expectations. Little private employment creation during 2012, decreasing investments and government decisions regarding exchange market control and import restrictions also hampered consumption.
