Despite the lacklustre performance of their UK restaurant brands, Whitbread Plc's consumer foodservice portfolio recorded positive results throughout 2012 and 2013. This success is primarily thanks to Costa Coffee, the second largest specialist coffee shops brand in the world after Starbucks. Whitbread hopes to continue to expand Costa Coffee into international markets, particularly in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
