The most important trend in 2012 was the increasing number of free-to-play video games, the development of the freemium model. There is an increasing number of gamers playing games via social media, smartphones and tablets. They became accustomed to the freemium model: playing the games for free, and only paying for the extra coins or visual weapons when needed. As a result, packaged video games was losing share.
