Consumers' spending power in South Africa was limited due to the persistent rise in the cost of living which strained consumer budgets. The rise in electricity tariffs as well as fuel prices had a knock-on effect on the consumers in South Africa. Consumers were cutting down on nonessential products when making purchasing decisions for any household items. This led to the prolonging of the replacement cycle of most audio and cinema products which usually carry higher unit prices.
