However, due to the introduction of the country's carbon tax and other energy initiatives, Australia had among the highest electricity costs in the developed world by the end of the review period. Household electricity prices increased by over 110% during the review period, with this encouraging many consumers to switch to gas appliances where possible in order to save money.
