Battle Creek, MI -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/05/2014 -- U.S. author Tracy Falbe announced the availability of her new historical fantasy Werelord Thal: A Renaissance Werewolf Tale at Kobo Books. Distribution through its retail sites and bookstore partners expands her new release into global ebook markets across 190 countries.
Werelord Thal is Falbe’s ninth novel. The story takes place in 16th century Bohemia when the Holy Roman Empire fractured along Protestant and Catholic lines. Fear mongering on both sides employed the superstitions of the era in terror campaigns of social cleansing that executed thousands for supposed acts of witchcraft, shape shifting, and paganism.
The author blended these historical facts with the superstitions of the time to create an adventure with werewolf and witch characters.
The plot of Werelord Thal is driven by Thal’s quest to avenge his witch mother who was burned to death. But when he kills for vengeance it causes the religious and secular authorities to accelerate their hunt for more heretics, which inevitably endangers Thal’s young lover Altea.
“Historical prejudices that had been exacerbated by Christian authorities to attack lingering pagan elements in society melded perfectly with the creation of a paranormal fantasy,” Falbe said.
Falbe chose this turbulent time as a backdrop for the werewolf hero Thal because the changes rocking that society could serve as a mirror to the werewolf’s physical transformations. The often vicious machinations of society are held up as a far worse thing than the natural predatory capabilities of the werewolf’s animal powers.
“The Renaissance was when our modern institutions really began to take shape. Emerging nation states on both sides of the Catholic and Protestant conflict were eager to consolidate control over their populations and impose consistent beliefs,” Falbe explained. “The turmoil of this time has always fascinated me, especially the vicious witch hunting that slaughtered many people, mostly women across Europe. I’ve wanted to write a novel around these issues for a long time.”
The author is committed to serving readers on any reading platform in any country, and works with multiple retail partners to make her novels widely available. In addition to Werelord Thal, her other fantasy novels are also available at Kobo books.
