Jonesboro, AR -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/21/2014 -- Lean continuous improvement is the focus of BWAY’s relationship with Hytrol Conveyor. Corporate Automation Engineer of BWAY, Allen Russ, recently shared how Hytrol has become the standard conveyor technology for the company and what drove the need for lean best-practice automation.

Russ explained, “Before installing Hytrol conveyors, pallets were either picked up beside the molding machines or were pushed down gravity conveyors to a banding and wrapping area where they were manually banded and wrapped. The issues that were the driving factors to automate with powered conveyors were safety, ergonomics, and labor savings.”

Russ noted, “Implementations are a continuous thing. We have automated several of our plants and as far as any metrics go we have achieved all labor savings and safety improvements that we used to justify each project. If labor savings were used, our pay back guidelines are 1.5 years or less.”
