Making Trash a Designer Piece as Well as a Functional Piece

The Swing Bin Makes A Trash Can A Sculptural Work of Art

Tokyo, Japan -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2014 -- It's a necessary intrusion on modern life – the trash can. No matter how it's worked into a room, there's just no hiding it and they never blend with the furniture or décor. The Swing Bin will change all of that as it takes the trash can to a new level, blending it into the décor, and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money toward that end.

Born in Fukui, Japan, the designer, Shigeichiro Takeuchi established Shigeichiro Studio in 2008 after working successfully for several years as a freelance designer. He has several designs currently on market – the Triskelion stool, the Mag Frame, the Tricom table, the Karai glass, and the beautiful Aeka lacquerware bowl, as well as several other prototypes such as the Manta table and the Hyrio sofa.

Like all of Shigeichiro Takeuchi's designs, the Swing Bin is fully functional home art. It displays simplicity and elegance found in contemporary Japanese design. Takeuchi began creating the idea in 2009 and after visualizing the design via CAD drawings he began working with cardboard making a product mock-up. In working that way, Takeuchi's challenges with the product design came down to what angles enabled the lid to perfectly balance, and then working out how to make the lid close firmly and quietly.

The Swing Bin was first introduced to the public in November 2009 through the online Architecture and Design magazine 'dezeen'. Since then it was entered in Milano Salone as part of an design exhibition. Manufacturers have shown interest in the product which has attracted many fans in the design world, which is why Shigeichiro Takeuchi chose Kickstarter to find investors. The design requires a certain oversight in the manufacturing process that only the designer could oversee. The product is projected for delivery to backers in October 2014.
