Melasma Treatment Using New Cosmeceutical Skin Cream with Silymarin Explained by Dr Lycka & Dr Telford

Leading dermatologists discuss a new skin cream containing the active ingredient from Milk Thistle plant

Edmonton, AB -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/20/2015 -- Melasma is traditionally very hard to treat. It is a skin condition in which patches of dark pigmentation develop on the face. It typically affects women and is caused by a number of 'triggers' such as hormonal changes in pregnancy and from birth control pills, as well as from sunlight. However promising results are being seen in treating Melasma with a cosmeceutical skin cream which contains Silymarin which is the active ingredient in the Milk Thistle plant. The cream is used in conjunction with other traditional treatments for Melasma. Other vitamin based skin creams from the same range (Cloud Vitamin Cream) are also being used, as well as to restore the skin's barrier and to protect from, and repair the effects of, skin sun damage. These treatments are discussed in detail this week on Inside Cosmetic Surgery Today on webtalkradio.net, when show host, Edmonton Cosmetic Dermatologist Dr Barry Lycka talks once again with fellow dermatologist Dr Gordon Telford from his Victoria, British Columbia practice.

In this in-depth interview, Dr Lycka & Dr Telford begin by explaining the symptoms and development of Melasma and the typical treatments available for it. They then introduce a new cosmeceutical skin cream which contains as its active ingredient Silymarin which is extracted from the common Milk Thistle plant. Dr Telford highlights the results he has achieved when using this cream as part of a controlled regime for treating Melasma. Results are also being seen when used to treat other brown spots known as actinic lentigines, also caused by sun damage. The two doctors then talk in detail about the results from using another product from the same range which contains a Vitamin A derivative, Retinyl Palmitate. It already occurs naturally in the skin, but when more is provided by the cream, the skin benefits by its much greater ability to protect itself from sun damage and also enabling it to repair & reverse the effects of skin sun damage too.
