ABC News Anchor Bob Woodruff called 17-year-old Charlie Kadado “the future of journalism.” Now he's taking his future into a whole new level with his own publishing house and second book.
Troy, MI -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/25/2014 -- 17-year old Charlie Kadado is not your ordinary teen. His hobbies include reading journalism textbooks, researching information about the publishing industry, and interviewing newsmakers like anthropologist Dr. Jane Goodall.
When a celebrated Ohio traditional publisher selected Kadado’s children’s book for publication in December of 2013, Charlie seriously considered signing the exclusive contract. But instead of selling the rights to his book, “Perry Finds His Talent,” the Shelby Township teen saw an opportunity to create his own business. Just two weeks later, Boundless Talents, LLC. was born.
“I opened my own publishing house because I realized I really didn’t need a large scale publisher. I could do it all on my own,” Kadado said. “I could get an ISBN, I could find an illustrator, I could do the marketing, and I could even get it in stores.”
After all, he has done most of this before.
Kadado’s first novel, “Sacrifice: Reporting in Kabul,” garnered an impressive number of sales after crafting his own marketing strategy. The book, which is loosely based on the true-life story of Bob Woodruff, attracted the correspondent’s attention in April of 2013.
During his visit to Michigan, Woodruff and Kadado met and exchanged copies of their books. Woodruff called Charlie, “The future of journalism.”
Kadado’s children’s book follows the journey of a fictional penguin that tries to play sports, join after-school clubs, and play an instrument. No matter how many activities he tries, things never go right.
“Perry reminds me of myself,” Kadado said. “Perry the Penguin realizes his real talent is in writing. The other activities were for the other kids.”
