New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/30/2014 -- Indie animation studio Mighty Yeti has recently released its first interactive storybook app for children, “Mr. Cupcake Has The Sprinkles,” for iPad, Android and Kindle Fire tablets. The interactive app created for kids age 2-8 is a unique and humorous tale of a walking, talking cupcake who is on his way to his friend Mr. Cookie’s birthday party when he is driven to distraction by an identified crunching noise coming from his surroundings. “Mr. Cupcake” will narrate to children in Read To Me mode in English and Spanish, and has over 70 interactive discovery touch points.
The owners of Mighty Yeti Studios and co-creators of the app, Josh Book and Jennie Book, wanted to create an interactive book app for kids that would entertain and help teach children to read with a fun story and high quality illustrations. “Kids love using iPads and tablets,” says Jennie. “They are instinctively drawn to screens.” The inspiration for the book came from their own kids playing with interactive storybook apps, which are similar to physical storybooks but have elements that come to life when the screen is touched, plus have sound effects and read to me features.
“We noticed several things,” says Josh. “One, we saw there was still space in the marketplace for an independent studio wanting to make quality storybook apps with top notch illustrations and interactivity. And two, these book apps were helping to teach our children to read.”
As an added benefit, Spanish reading options alongside the English Read to Me will help teach kids to learn English and Spanish as a second language. Josh and Jennie have tried to weave in all the elements in “Mr. Cupcake Has The Sprinkles” which they know kids will enjoy in a storybook. “We love combining reading with entertainment and technology,” says Josh. “Our apps are drawn by professional animators, the stories are fun, kids love them, and if the child is motivated, the apps will help teach them to read.” Josh, a veteran art director and animator who has worked on hit TV series' such as “Bubble Guppies” and “The Penguins of Madagascar” for Nickelodeon, “Sheriff Callie’s Wild West” for Disney, and the recent video game “Marvel Heroes,” and Jennie, the writer of “Mr. Cupcake Has The Sprinkles,” enlisted the help of animation artist Eddie Betancourt to draw the book app.
“Mr. Cupcake Has the Sprinkles” is the first of four interactive storybooks from Mighty Yeti to be released in 2014. The studio has three other kids' book apps currently in production and near completion.
