Monytalk Financial Foundations Seeks Crowdfunding to Deliver Basic Financial Education for Those in Need

Teaching basic Christian financial skills to help others keep a job, maintain a home and pay off debts.

Shawnee, KS -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/15/2014 -- The focus of Moneytalk Financial Foundations is to help people with their finances that, unfortunately, find themselves in an underserved socioeconomic sector because they have a low-income, are homeless, young and inexperienced, or either is or was incarcerated. Their belief is that if they can teach these people to manage their money so that they can meet their essential living expenses, they will be more able to provide for themselves. The underlying philosophy is that if they can keep a roof over their head, food on the table and their utilities turned on, they are less likely to steal or commit other crimes. Such people develop a sense of self-sufficiency such that they are more able to hold onto a job, pay off any debts they have, and move toward being financially independent.

So far they have taught their Financial Stewardship program to 88 students over six different classes at the Topeka Correctional Facility, the Fort Leavenworth Military Prison, and two different Johnson County, Kansas detention centers with more classes in the works this fall. Not resting on their laurels, the foundation adapts its teaching materials at the end of each class based on a myriad of information gained from each session completed to steadily improve the quality of the learning experience while eliminating points of confusion and possible disconnects that stood between the students and the subject matter.

The Financial Stewardship program is a collection of nine financial topics designed to teach individuals the basics of managing their finances. No products or services of any kind are solicited to their students; the classes have the single goal of disseminating life-changing knowledge to their students so that they’re able to manage their own money and eventually become financially independent.

To expand their program and help more people, crowdfunding is sought to allow them to acquire a larger office space (their current headquarters is the founders’ dining room table), more equipment to print and reproduce all class materials, acquire licensure required by neighboring states before engaging in educational programs in those locations and awareness to make the existence of their non-profit known to more and more people who could use the essential financial education if only they knew The Moneytalk Financial Foundations existed.

This crowdfunding campaign ends on October 18, 2014.
