Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/18/2014 -- As a time to celebrate the last day of carnival season, and a moment to indulge in a party atmosphere on Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras is the perfect event before a long Lent season. A southern tradition that has recently been brought to the great city of Philadelphia, Mummers Mardi Gras is announcing their preparation for the 2015 event, and is now searching for Mummers Brigades to join in on the experience.
Those brigades that are interested in being part of the annual event will be able to come together with other string bands and fancy brigades while helping to raise money for the Philadelphia mummers organizations. In the 2014 inaugural event, the Mardi Gras featured a number of Mummers divisions, live music, entertainment, and acts that featured stilt walkers, artists, jugglers, dancers, and magicians. These acts gave the brigades a chance to be entertained, providing them the option of relaxing from their consistent marching.
As the party was held outdoors at the Piazza at Schmidts, there is a new venue being sought for the Mardi Gras 2015, and the location will be announced shortly. The goal is to provide a children friendly venue for the family to enjoy all that the Philly mummers have to offer. This is a great opportunity to take in the sites and sounds of some of the most renowned Mummers’ divisions in the city, while raising money for the greatest Philadelphia tradition.
The coordinators and administrators are recruiting acts and mummers brigades to join in the 2015 celebration on a daily basis, and have already incorporated a number of new performances into the schedule for February 2015.
