Nate and the Horseshoe Crabs: Empathy-Driven New Children's Book Raises Vital Awareness for Horseshoe Crabs

While it may first appear unconventional, horseshoe crabs are vital to the human race – and a powerful new children’s book by Nathaniel Newton explains why. ‘Nate and the Horseshoe Crabs’ also helps young readers foster empathy, sympathy and kindness for others.

Rockville Center, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 04/01/2014 -- Horseshoe crabs may be voiceless and unassuming, but they’re a vital component of life-saving medical research and pharmaceutical development. In his wholly unique new children’s book, author Nathaniel Newton uses the Horseshoe Crab analogy to not only raise awareness of the creatures, but foster empathy and good character in young children everywhere.

‘Nate and the Horseshoe Crabs’ fuses a fun and enchanting story with a bold life lesson.

Synopsis:

Colorful Beach Birds... save the day!

While out fishing one day, a puffin bird named Nate along with his friends discover struggling horseshoe crabs covering the shoreline and decide to rescue them. Nate's friends are terrified of horseshoe crabs and refuse to help them. As time passes, Nate convinces them to rescue the horseshoe crabs and teaches them why it's so important to help.

This heartwarming, delightful tale with simple illustrations flows through a vibrant medley of colorful backgrounds and cute bird characters. This picture book speaks to the importance of empathy, kindness & hope.

As the author explains, his book is addressing a vital need in society.

“There are many signs in today’s younger generation that demonstrate a drastic shortfall in empathy, sympathy and kind attitudes towards others. The Horseshoe Crab is the perfect ‘character’ for this type of book as they are voiceless yet hold the key to many marvelous developments that help humans around the world,” says Newton.
Continuing, “With their blue blood, medical labs everywhere utilize the secretion for testing vaccinations for contamination, as well as fighting bacteria in a host of other applications. I want young children to realize that, just because something may not have a voice, it can still be of vital importance to the world. In turn, this will help young readers grow up with the good character and empathy they require to triumph.”

Since its release, the book has garnered a string of rave reviews.

For example, Maurice Daniels comments, “The narrative and illustrations were great. Very educational and a must have for your children's library. We all enjoyed it!”
