New Memoir 'Lets the Skeletons Out', Detailing Young Man's Journey Through Mental Illness

From author Nathan Daniels, ‘Surviving the Fourth Cycle’ is a riveting and often harrowing look at a life marked by sexual abuse, violence and psychological disorders. Readers will follow Daniels as he grows up, endures the death of his parents, a ‘psychotic’ older sister and comes to the very brink of despair.

Riverside, RI -- (ReleaseWire) -- 01/23/2014 --It isn’t often that male survivors of sexual abuse come forward to share their stories.

For Nathan Daniels, author of raw and emotional new memoir, ‘Surviving the Fourth Cycle’, being honest about what happened to him was part of the healing process.

“I needed to reclaim my life,” says Daniels. “Writing helped me to do that. It’s a cathartic experience, to allow a reader to – in essence – peer over my shoulder as I unpack the experiences that made me who I am today.”

Those experiences form the bulk of ‘Surviving the Fourth Cycle’, as Daniels details the pain of being abused by his older sister, the looming threat of violence from his father, and the powerful bond he shared with his beloved mother. Daniels also offers readers a rare glimpse into the mind of a man suffering from mental illness through his own journal entries, with feverish writings and a spiraling journey into the darkness.

Synopsis:

Surviving the Fourth Cycle is a uniquely-told, true story about overcoming suicide, for anyone affected by the harsh realities of mental illness. Nathan Daniels rips his closet door off its hinges and the skeletons come rattling out through his intense writing. Read along as he picks through the bones, examining the powerful relationships and experiences that have led to both his struggle to function in society and his ability to persevere.

As the author explains, ‘Surviving the Fourth Cycle’ is not an easy read, but it is an important one.

“I will take you to hell and back, and you won’t be able to look away,” says Daniels. “Anyone who has suffered like I have will understand, and those who haven’t can finally peer into a haunted mind and realize what it’s like to live in a distorted world.”

Continuing, “Ultimately, I wanted to give readers a story of redemption and show that survival is possible. I had to accept love and I had to say goodbye to my past, which isn’t a simple act. But it saved my life – and it’s why I’m still alive to tell my story.”

Since its publication, ‘Surviving the Fourth Cycle’ has earned glowing reviews.

“The author is brilliant in his ability to infect you with his ailments through his powerful words and, at the same time, fill you with the hope that all adversity can be overcome. I read this book fast, and I’ll read this book again. Perfect for anyone seeking understanding about multiple psychological disorders, child abuse, self harm, or suicidal thoughts. Perfect for anyone who loves a riveting true story about a fascinating and inspirational life journey,” wrote Kirk Mattes.

"This book without a doubt will go on to help thousands out there suffering from a variety of mental health problems. The clearness of the intrusive thoughts and sights become real, his desperation and aloneness shines though, he is weak at these times in his life and the vulnerability you feel for this man is heartbreaking. If only I could pull him from the pages, its one of those books that once you begin to read you do not want to put down,” wrote Emma White from The Real Supermum Blog
