Arrival Electronics Announce 2 New Embedded Graphic Controller Solutions

Hampshire, UK -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/03/2014 --Arrival Electronics is pleased to announce 2 new embedded graphic controller solutions from Silicon Motion, an embedded GPU and a server GPU. Their embedded GPU product line targets embedded and consumer applications such as high resolution handhelds, point-of-sale terminals, medical equipment, multi-functional printers, casino gaming machines, industrial PCs, and servers.

These embedded GPU products are packaged in multi-chip modules (MCM) with embedded video memory to maximize cost effectiveness, minimize power consumption, and ensure prolonged device longevity. The integration of graphics fundamentals provides our products with outstanding reliability and flexibility to address the requirements of a broad range of applications.

Additionally, the embedded GPU products are designed to meet the needs of vertical markets that require flexible bus interface with a wide range of embedded microprocessors, such as x86, XScale, ARM7/9/11, MIPS, Renesas SH, and PowerPC. To help reduce total system costs and maximize capability in interfacing with a wide variety of external devices, these products can manage many types of I/O interfaces, including analogue RGB and digital LCD panel interfaces, USB host, UART, AC97/I2S, Zoom Video, PWM, SSP, and GPIO. Silicon Motions rich software debug and SDK tools simplify driver development by utilizing 7 graphic s display layers and multiple display functions for high quality, sophisticated applications.

The SM718 is a PCI 2D multimedia mobile display controller device, packaged in a 320-pin BGA. Designed to complement needs for the embedded industry, it provides video and 2D capability. To help reduce system costs, it supports a wide variety of I/O, including analogue RGB and digital LCD Panel interfaces, two Zoom Video interfaces, and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). There are additional GPIO bits that can be used to interface to external devices as well. The 2D engine includes a front-end colour space conversion with 4:1 and 1:8 scaling support. The video engine supports two different video outputs (Dual Monitor), at 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit per pixel and a 3-color hardware cursor per video output. The LCD panel video pipe supports a back-end YUV color space conversion with 4:1 and 1:212 scaling. A Zoom Video (ZV) port is also included to interface to external circuitry for MPEG decode or TV input.

The SM502 is a Mobile Multimedia Companion Chip (MMCC™) device packaged in a 297-pin Ball Grid Array. Designed to comply with needs of the embedded sector, the SM502 has video and 2D capabilities. To decrease system costs, the SM502 supports a diverse array of I/Os, including analogue RGB and digital LCD Panel interfaces, an 8-bit parallel interface, USB, UART, IrDA, two Zoom Video (ZV) interfaces, AC97 or I-S, SSP, PWM, and I-C. The additional GPIO bits that can be utilized to interface with external devices. The 2D engine has front-end colour space conversion with 4:1 and 1:8 scaling support. The video engine supports two different video outputs (Dual Monitor) at 8, 16, or 32-bit per pixel and a 3-color hardware cursor per video output. The LCD Panel video pipe supports back-end YUV color space conversion with 4:1 and 1:212 scaling. A ZV port is also included as an interface for external circuitry for MPEG decoding or TV input.
