San Francisco, CA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/07/2014 --Drive Fit is developing a new App designed to help individuals with Autism and Traumatic Brain Injuries learn or relearn how to drive a motor vehicle.

In the United States, there are approximately 850,000 individuals with Autism in the 15 to 24 year-old “learning to drive” age range. In addition, every year 1.7 million people in the U.S. experience a traumatic brain injury. A common challenge for individuals with these medical conditions is managing the overwhelming amount of visual information on the road.

The Drive Fit App coaches the user how to narrow their focus to just the critical information. Users hone their visual search skills through interactive videos of actual driving situations in low to high traffic, before getting behind the wheel of a car.

For a young person with Autism, getting a driver’s license is a turning point towards lifelong independence. Relearning to drive following a traumatic brain injury means re-engaging in society. “Driving can open up a world of opportunities for someone. I’ve seen my students get a job for the first time, go on to school and meet new people, all because of their newfound freedom in driving,” said Drive Fit Founder, Miriam Monahan.

The Drive Fit App is based on the pioneering work of Miriam Monahan, an occupational therapist, driving school instructor, and nationally recognized authority on medical conditions and driving.

Drive Fit is using Indiegogo as a vehicle to fundraise and take pre-orders for the App.
