Essex, UK -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/12/2014 --Local Essex catering company Bespoke Caterers appeared alongside a number of famous faces on Friday 7th February in an episode of Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, in which they attempted to help revive the long-lost Colchester pudding at the personal request of the town’s mayor.

The Colchester pudding made its debut over 160 years ago and was hugely popular throughout the Victorian era. It’s described in the episode as a combination of baked Alaska, summer pudding and trifle, and was an immediate hit with presenters Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty in terms of its taste and texture when they had the opportunity to sample the original recipe courtesy of Colchester’s mayoress.

Though the dessert experienced a bit of a revival in the 1990s, its tapioca element has ultimately left it out of favour with the younger generation. Jamie and Jimmy admitted in their most recent show that tapioca has a poor reputation in the UK, but with the help of a team of chefs at the Colchester Institute, which is home to the largest catering college in the country, set about proving that this controversial ingredient can be cooked to perfection and can be used to enhance a range of dessert dishes.

Bespoke Caterers’ managing directors James Oxley and Glyn Wiltshire were filmed getting stuck into the cooking process as they and a number of other chefs attempted to bring the Colchester pudding back into the limelight by staging a swanky reception for the local catering industry at Colchester Town Hall. Despite the fact that many caterers were not aware of the recipe, the concept of the pudding went down a treat and the majority of attendees were eager to incorporate this age-old dessert into their menus.

Bespoke Caterers’ Twitter feed exploded in response to James and Glyn’s appearance in the episode, with many Followers commenting on how exciting it was to see an already successful local company increase their profile by appearing on such a popular and respected cooking show. In the wake of the episode, Bespoke also experienced a record number of impressions with their Facebook posts, proving that their appearance on Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast heightened interest in the company.

Legendary DJ Chris Moyles also featured in the episode and worked with Jamie and Jimmy in their pier-based café to rustle up his favourite dish, an authentic New York-style pizza. Jamie Oliver himself introduced an exciting lamb recipe that fuses the heat of a curry with the timeless simplicity of a roast.
