New York City, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 02/25/2014 --Aveia is a contemporary Polynesian dance company that was created in 2008 by Founder and Artistic Director Anthony Aiu.. It is a platform for preserving Polynesian cultural heritage and dances through the creation of new works, in both traditional and contemporary form, that draw on the rich and abundant inspiration found in these native traditions.

For more information about Aveia, visit http://www.danceaveia.com.

On May 17, 2014, Aveia will participate alongside thousands of other cultural dancers and receive broader exposure in this years televised Dance Parade in New York City. Hundreds of dance groups will be viewed by millions of people as they dance down Broadway. This campaign is important because it will help establish voice for Polynesian cultural heritage in mainstream contemporary dance, and contribute a unique perspective to the dance world from a deep and untouched, influential society.

These indigenous cultural dances are highly under represented in New York City and often misunderstood. Even the pure and exquisite spoken languages of these islands, are in danger of becoming extinct.

The campaign is to raise funds that will cover production costs including: registration and participation fees, securing a float and reliable sound system, rehearsal studio rental, promotional items, and traditional costumes. This campaign will receive all funds raised even if it does not reach its goal.

Funding duration: February 16, 2014 - March 31, 2014 (11:59pm PT).
