On the final stop of her Werewolves in the Renaissance blog tour author Tracy Falbe shared images from her favorite Renaissance artists. Her historical research for the setting of the book Werelord Thal depended heavily on art from the era.

Battle Creek, MI -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/14/2014 --Visiting the blog Illusions of Intimacy on March 13th, author Tracy Falbe presented an article and slide show about her favorite Renaissance artists. Her 9th novel Werelord Thal: A Renaissance Werewolf Tale is set in 1561 Bohemia, and Falbe gained great insights about the era from famous artists like Albrecht Durer, Caravaggio, Titian, and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.

“These artists in particular helped me study clothing styles, hair styles, social classes, mythological beliefs, landscapes, and economy,” Falbe said.

His subjects frequently depict scenes of the common people working and playing in their villages. His paintings were invaluable for picturing clothing, home interiors, and village life.”

She explains how Albrecht Durer became internationally famous in his own lifetime because the new printing technology distributed his woodcuts. A bold nude by Titian known as Urbino’s Venus aided Falbe in writing a provocative heroine, and the works of Caravaggio let her see people outside mainstream society, particularly in the painting The Musicians.

The novel Werelord Thal: A Renaissance Werewolf Tale blends the historical setting with the supernatural beliefs of the time to create a paranormal historical fantasy. In the story the werewolf hero Thal is on a quest within the Holy Roman Empire to hunt down the men that tortured and executed his witch mother.
