New York, NY -- (ReleaseWire) -- 03/21/2014 --The 25th anniversary of the internet was received with mixed feelings by colleges which are struggling to compete with online learning programs.

Since the invention of the World Wide Web over two decades ago, the amount of online learning programs has skyrocketed. As increasing numbers of students are choosing to pursue their education through the internet, colleges and universities are having to make huge cut-backs just keep going.

Community colleges have been hit particularly hard, with overall enrollment down in 2014 compared to other years, a trend the Washington Post says “underscore[s] a challenge for community college leaders across the country.”

While these trends have been greeted with dismay by college presidents and faculty, not everyone sees it as negative.
