Boston, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/06/2014 --The most important factor driving retail tissue in Slovenia are consumers? habits, which, once adopted, change very slowly. However, a deteriorating adverse economic situation in Slovenia is putting these habits to challenge as falling purchasing power is forcing consumers to reconsider them. However, rather than making savings by decreasing volume consumption, they are increasingly turning towards cheaper products, waiting for discounts before making purchases and spreading their purchases among more retailers in order to find the best price. This resulted in stagnating volume sales of retail tissue in Slovenia whereas current value sales declined by 2% in 2013. This represents a similar performance in volume terms but worse in value terms than the CAGRs recorded over the review period.

Competitive Landscape

In retail tissue in Slovenia, private label plays a very important role; however, the most notable player in retail tissue remains traditional, domestic manufacturer, Paloma dd, which, it was noted, struggled with its sales in 2013. The company saw its volume share of retail tissue decrease from 33% to 32% in 2013, which was mainly on account of an increasing number of people shifting towards cheaper products and private label. For the same reason, premium producer SCA Group with its popular Zewa brand saw its value share of retail tissue fall from 10% to 9% in 2013.

Industry Prospects

A rising popularity of private label represents a significant challenge for branded manufacturers of retail tissue in Slovenia, especially as private label is present in all segments, from economy to premium. Therefore, branded manufacturers will be challenged to develop their own lines of value protection products, even new brands to cope with rising pressures from private label. Furthermore, major players in retail tissue have been slow to improve their products going more towards a green direction, especially in finding an alternative solution to virgin fibre; therefore, more efforts to do so are expected in the forecast period.
