Battle Creek, MI -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/25/2014 --Book lovers find so many books interesting they often have trouble deciding what to read. A new type of online business has emerged to help readers discover what they like among the hundreds of thousands of new titles published every year.

One such book recommendation service is The Fussy Librarian founded by Jeffrey Bruner a journalist in Des Moines, Iowa. An interview with him was published on June 23 at Her Ladyship’s Quest the blog of fantasy author Tracy Falbe.

Bruner’s service operates as a daily email that people subscribe to. He currently has over 13,000 subscribers. Each email is customized based on each recipient’s filtering options. Subscribers sign up for the categories and genres that they enjoy. And they can also filter book recommendations based on violence, sexual content, and profanity.

In his interview Bruner said, “That way if your mom prefers books without swearing, she only gets those. And if you read everything, we can send you all of the books each day.”

The fussy part of The Fussy Librarian comes from the book selection process for the emails. Publishers and authors can only submit books to the service if they have gained enough positive reviews at online retailers.

Falbe decided to invite Bruner to an interview at her blog because she admired his entrepreneurial spirit.

“I’m subscribed to his author newsletter and I’ve been impressed by his writing and his message. He recently announced that he’s leaving his job to build The Fussy Librarian,” Falbe said.

In his interview Bruner explained how the layoffs that have been rampant in the newspaper industry made him develop his business. “In the end, it came down to either creating my own backup plan and become my own boss or I could continue to wake up each morning wondering if today was going to be the day I lost my job,” he said.
