Monarch butterflies are disappearing at an alarming rate. Save Our Monarchs Foundation has a simple plan to save them, but it will work only with funding help.

Minneapolis, MN -- (ReleaseWire) -- 06/27/2014 --The monarch butterfly is in big trouble. Their numbers are 80 to -90 percent below what they were just a few years ago. Milkweed plants are the only source of food for the monarch caterpillar. These plants are rapidly disappearing, and threatening the monarch's survival.

The Save Our Monarchs Foundation is the only foundation solely dedicated to saving these beautiful creatures by planting milkweed, the sole source of food for the monarch caterpillar. They are collaborating with the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to distribute milkweed seeds to their Arboretum visitors. Gardening centers across Minnesota are also distributing milkweed seeds to their customers.

Every seed packet costs $.50 and Save Our Monarchswe needs to buy 15,000 seed packets to make itsour goal. A launch party in early June raised some money toward their financial target. However, further assistance is needed to meet the goal of sending out 100,000 milkweed packets this year.

Milkweed must be planted by mid in June and July , for it to grow into the mature plant the monarch caterpillar can eat. Adequate funding support will help achieve goal of distributing enough milkweed to arrest the cycle of decline in the monarch's population.

This project will only be funded if at least $7,500 is pledged by the end of day on Sat, July 19.
