Battle Creek, MI -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/15/2014 --OverDrive, the leading digital content provider of ebooks and audiobooks to over 20,000 public library systems, now includes all nine of Tracy Falbe’s fantasy novels in its catalog. The recent deal between one of Falbe’s distributors, Smashwords of Los Gatos, California, and OverDrive has enabled Falbe and thousands of indie authors like her to reach the library market after years of exclusion.

“Readers interested in self published titles now have a way to ask for their libraries to add them to their digital collections. It’s great to see libraries finally having access to the full scope of the literary marketplace,” Falbe said.

Her novels are among over 200,000 titles from Smashwords that OverDrive now makes available to library ebook lending programs. Librarians must search these titles in a separate self published section of the catalog. Many of the titles available are best sellers in their genres at retail sites, and the authors enjoy significant fan followings.

“There are many talented self published authors. I often read indie novels and for the most part I find them just as good if not better than anything produced by mainstream companies. Authors are the source of good fiction. Who publishes it doesn’t matter,” Falbe said.

Librarians on tight budgets have a lot to gain by shopping for self published titles at OverDrive. According to the announcement from Smashwords at its company blog, digital titles from major publishers can cost libraries $20 to $80 per unit through OverDrive.

Self published titles at OverDrive are generally under $10, and Falbe’s fantasy ebooks are available to public libraries for $3.99 or less.

“I discount several of my titles just for libraries to help support them. I’m a big fan of libraries. I’ve used them all my life and think they are crucial assets to their communities,” Falbe said.
