William Peace University Hosts Student Delegation From Qatar University

Four-Year Baccalaureate University To Have 10 Students From The Middle East Visit Jan. 30-Feb. 6 In Award-Winning International Exchange Program

 

Raleigh, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/20/2012 -- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that a delegation of 10 female students ages 19-25 from Qatar University in Doha, Qatar, accompanied by two chaperones will visit the campus from Monday, Jan. 30 through Monday, Feb. 6, as part of the latter university’s Off-Campus Educational Opportunities and Student Exchange program. The students, who are natives of the Middle East, will live on campus at student dormitories, attend several classes including Social Media and Cultural Anthropology as well as a poetry workshop at the university, and make a presentation to the student body on Thursday, Feb. 2. Other activities slated to occur during the students’ visit are meeting with Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane, touring the downtown ABC11 TV studios and visiting the Islamic Association of Raleigh. At least two members of the William Peace University staff will be in attendance at these events to provide assistance as the students experience and learn more about living on campus and working in Wake County.

Qatar University has won the International Education 2012 Best Practice Award for its student exchange program with William Peace University. The award, which will be presented at the 2012 National Association of Student Personnel Administration (NASPA) International Symposium to be held in March in Phoenix, recognizes prominent higher education and student affairs leaders, programs, and initiatives for contributions and impact on inter-cultural and educational exchanges. Al Jazzi Hamad Fetais leads Qatar University’s programs.

This is the fifth year that the two universities have conducted their student exchange programs. Five students and one faculty member from William Peace University visited Qatar from Dec. 12-20, 2011, to help celebrate National Day on Dec. 18, which commemorates the country’s establishment and independence.
