London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/02/2012 -- Delight in the colorful sights and breathe in the charming scents of the Chelsea Flower Show 2012. Considered to be one of the most famous gardening shows in the world, the RHS Chelsea Flower Show is a horticulturalist’s festival, a celebration of the highest quality grown fauna from all over the world. For five days in May, 11 acres of the Royal Hospital grounds in Chelsea, London receives over 200,000 visitors of landscape artists, gardeners, florists, and horticulture hobbyists. Members of the British Royal Family are expected to attend the show’s opening ceremonies, in support of the Royal Horticultural Society.

Run by the Royal Horticulturalist Society, the Chelsea Flower Show is the ‘Olympic’ event of horticulturalists from across the world. It is the venue for the highest level of international competition for landscape designers, floral arrangers and plant growers. It is a showcase for introducing and observing the latest trends in gardening and growing. This is the time and place for contemporary designers to display their vivid creations that combine flowers, plants, colors, décor and other elements that produce beautiful garden art.

Visitors may look forward to new releases for 2012 such as Osteospermum ‘in The Pink’ from Fairweather’s Nursery. On display for the first time ever, this is a new variety with masses of daisy-like bright pink flowers that bloom on short upright stems in June and July.

The Leucanthemum ‘Freak!’, another new plant that comes all the way from Holland, will be presented by Har Stemkens of Syngenta. Just like other Leucanthemums, this plant blooms from the end of April/May all throughout the summer into early Autumn. The difference lies in it being pure white with a yellow centre that produces compact, shapely daisy flowers.

Both the ‘Freak’ and ‘in the Pink’ will vie for the RHS Plant of the Year Award, won by Hardy’s Cottage Garden Plants last year, with its entry Anemone ‘Wild Swan’.

The first two days of the flower show (May 22 – 23) are open to RHS members only while non-members can walk through the gardens of the Royal Hospital from May 24 – 26. Chelsea Flower Show tickets must be purchased in advance. RHS members may purchase up to a maximum of 4 tickets at the discounted member rates. Any additional tickets can be purchased at the regular public rate. For groups of 10 or more, Chelsea Flower Show tickets may be acquired from the RHS Group Bookings Department, open from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

To ensure that one’s walk through the Chelsea Flower Show’s blooming grounds is enjoyable, many facilities such as picnic areas, restaurants, ATM and banks, will be available throughout the five days. By 4pm on the 26th, exhibitors will start selling their plants and products display. Take your pick among the vegetables, shrubs, indoor plants, perennials and the rest on exhibit.
