Madison, WI -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/02/2012 -- Five time national racing champion Scott Tucker has welcomed this year's increased competition in the American Le Mans Series P2 class. For the 2012 ALMS season the number of cars lining up on the starting grid in the P2 category has grown significantly and Scott Tucker has embraced the new competition with open arms as he kicks off the defense of his 2011 ALMS P2 championship.

Scott Tucker and his Level 5 Motorsport team will this year face increased competition from new racing teams Conquest Endurance and Black Swan Racing. Both teams are making their debuts in the ALMS P2 category this year kicking off at the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida and rather than being concerned by his new rivals Scott Tucker has welcomed the expansion of the P2 class. Prior to the start of the 2011 season the number of entries running in the P2 category was expected to grow, unfortunately that never happened but in 2012 it has happened and that's something that has pleased Scott Tucker.

According to Scott Tucker he was disappointed about last year but he made it clear it wasn't the fault of the series. Tucker went on to add that there were guys telling the series that they were coming and didn't. Scott Tucker was fully committed to the ALMS P2 series in 2011 and his Level 5 Motorsports team came out strongly running two cars in order to show just how committed they were.

Joining the Scott Tucker owned Level 5 Motorsports team on the starting grid in 2012 will be Eric Bachelart's Conquest Endurance, based in Indianapolis, IN., the team has moved from open wheel competition into the prototype ranks. Driving a Morgan-Judd for Conquest will be former Indycar driver Martin Plowman and David Heinemeier-Hansson. The team has been tipped to push Level 5 this coming season.

The other new entry competing against Scott Tucker's Level 5 team are Black Swan Racing, the Tim Pappas owned team from Boston, MA. have a HPD Lola driven by owner driver Pappas, Bret Curtis, and two time Grand-Am champion Jon Fogarty. There could be even more teams lining up on the P2 starting grid soon as this week actor turned driver Patrick Dempsey announced his Dempsey Racing team were looking to move into ALMS P2.
