BJAC Wins Triangle Business Journal SPACE Award for City of Medicine Academy

BJAC Project Named Top State/County/Municipal Project

 

Raleigh, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/10/2012 -- Dan Fields, AIA, principal and CMO at BJAC, pa (http://www.bjac.com), an architectural firm offering professional architectural and design services, has announced that the City of Medicine Academy, which was designed by BJAC for Durham Public Schools, received a SPACE award from Triangle Business Journal in the top state/county/municipal project category. Located at 301 Crutchfield St. in Durham, N.C., the City of Medicine Academy is a $7 million facility that was established for high school students interested in pursuing a career in health care. The SPACE Awards are given to the strongest economic development projects, innovative commercial real estate developments, and largest commercial real estate transactions of the year in the Triangle.

DETAILS:
-The City of Medicine is located adjacent to Durham Regional Hospital. Welty Building Co. was the general contractor on the project.

-The three-story facility is 40,000 square feet and can accommodate 400 students.

-The project received funding from a 2007 referendum, and the program is supported by the following local institutions: Durham Public Schools, Duke University, Durham Technical Community College, N.C. Central University and UNC-Chapel Hill.
