Lewis Automotive Showcases First Fully Electric Car in the State, the Nissan LEAF

The Nissan LEAF is delivered to Lewis Nissan as the first fully electric vehicle in the state.

Beckley, WV -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/25/2012 -- The Nissan LEAF is a 100% pure electric vehicle (EV), which can travel up to 100 miles on a single charge. The LEAF has already been awarded several accolades for its performance engine, environmentally-friendly features, and overall safety. With all of the amazing “green” features and awards, Lewis Nissan is proud to now offer the 2012 Nissan LEAF to the Beckley and Charleston area communities.

As previously mentioned, the Nissan LEAF has a range of up to 100 miles with a full charge. According to a recent study by Nissan and the EPA, “The Nissan LEAF™ has been tested under the EPA Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule, a laboratory test commonly called the LA4 test cycle, which represents city driving conditions. Top speed is 56.7 mph and average speed is 19.59 mph. Ambient temperature can vary from 68 - 86 degrees. Climate control is off. The Nissan LEAF™ easily achieved 100 miles.”

In order to charge, the Nissan LEAF has three different charge levels: level one which takes about 18 hours to fully charge, level two which drops down the charging time to eight hours, and a level three with about a 26 minute timeframe, but only charges the LEAF up to 80 percent.

Currently, there are four charging stations in Beckley and three at The Greenbrier resort, but with the increasing popularity of EVs and high gas prices, West Virginia could see up to 100 additional chargers throughout the state at fast food and hotel locations within the next three years.

The 2012 LEAF is a five-door compact EV and can seat up to five passengers. Features like the front UV-reducing solar glass, aerodynamic LED headlights, and photovoltaic solar panel rear spoiler give the Nissan LEAF its credibility as an electric vehicle.

Thus far, the Nissan LEAF has received awards such as, 2011 World Car of The Year Winner, 5-Star Overall Safety Rating from IIHS, Kelley Blue Book’s Top 10 Green Cars List, Ward’s 10 Best Engines List, and Popular Mechanic’s Breakthrough Award for a top-notch pure EV with the cost of an average vehicle.

Stop by Lewis Nissan today to test drive the phenomenal 2012 Nissan LEAF and see what all the buzz is about for yourself. Keep in mind, saving on gas money isn’t the only perk of the Nissan LEAF, when purchasing a Nissan LEAF, buyers are now eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500.
