Sacramento Eyes Job Cuts to Solve Deficit; SacramentoCrossing Adds More Jobs for Job Seekers

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/13/2010 -- The Sacramento job market is limping as more and more job cuts are brought about to wipe the city’s $43 million deficit. More jobs will be lost from the fire department and recreation parks and pools will be closed down to face the budget crisis. Meanwhile, SacramentoCrossing (http://www.SacramentoCrossing.com), a job-research service catering exclusively to job seekers in Sacramento, has massively enhanced its efforts to locate every job opening.

“SacramentoCrossing added more than 2500 jobs to the site and aspires to list more and more job openings every day and every week,” says A. Harrison Barnes, CEO of SacramentoCrossing.

Additionally, more than a thousand county jobs are expected to be cut as the county is considering to close the gap of $181 million. The proposal suggests that at least 800 jobs are at risk. Last year too, the departments cut 122 jobs to counter the recession.

On the industrial front, SureWest Communications had recently said that it is going to lay off about 7% of its workforce which is about 45 jobs from Sacramento and 15 from Kansas. Severance packages will be awarded to the laid off workers according to their announcement. SureWest plans to save at least $1 million in cash through these layoffs and another $1 million by cutting off on advisory and consulting service costs. While the landline workers are facing the axe, the company is keen on hiring workers for its broadband unit.

“The job market is mostly suffering from cuts from different divisions. Additionally, there are cluttered job boards everywhere and no focused, niche job boards which post jobs according to the needs of the job seekers. SacramentoCrossing aspires to be the job board which can aggregate all jobs in Sacramento, and till now has met with considerable success.” adds Barnes.

SacramentoCrossing currently lists 9000-plus jobs in its database belonging to all domains and industries. These jobs have been collected from more than 8,000 job boards and 250,000 employer websites.

“We aim to add more jobs from all possible sources, including all the hidden jobs,” adds Barnes.

Unlike other job-search and career sites, SacramentoCrossing weeds out spam and jobs outside one’s niche, allowing job seekers to search efficiently and specifically for Sacramento. SacramentoCrossing also allows employers/recruiters to post jobs for free on the site. For more information on SacramentoCrossing, please visit http://www.sacramentocrossing.com
