Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/10/2014 -- In July 2002, The Edward P. Bass Distinguished Visiting Environmental Scholars Program was created to bring premier scholars to Yale for an extended period of time. The scholars can belong to any field dealing with the study of environment. The program was a generous gift by Edward P. Bass to YIBS – the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies. These scholars are nominated through the Faculty Council of YIBS. The scholars would present seminars and interact with their fellow students, research groups and faculty and also participate in one or more academic units. And this year the program honors Dr. Bill Weber.

About Dr. Bill Weber
Dr. Bill Weber is a Senior Conservationist with the Wildlife Conservation Society and also the Co-Founder of the Mountain Gorilla Project in Rwanda. Dr. Weber has worked several years for the international conservation and also lived in Africa for 9 years. With a field experience ranging from Alaska to Arctic and Central to Eastern Africa, Dr. Weber also advises the National Park Service on various projects. He is now considered as a pioneer of modern ecotourism movement and recognized as an expert in wildlife conservation.

Dr. Weber has written different articles ranging from carnivore conservation to community development. His work was also featured in various films in Europe and the US. Dr. Weber shares his Rwanda experiences in his book "In the Kingdom of Gorillas" where his wife Dr. Amy Vedder was the co-author. The book was featured as "the most influential books from the past 40 years of wildlife publishing" by BBC Wildlife in 2003. Toronto Globe and Mail along with National Public Radio also selected this book as the "Best Science and Nature Books" in 2001.

About Edward P. Bass
Edward P. Bass is the founder of the Distinguished Visiting Environmental Scholars Program and the co-founder of Biosphere 2 in Arizona in the 1990s. Under his erudite guidance, the organization transitioned into a major research center of the University of Arizona. The University awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science to Edward P. Bass in the year 2009 for his contributions to the study related to the earth's environment.

Apart from being a producer of wildlife awareness, he also directed Emeritus of the World Wildlife Fund. Edward P. Bass is also a member of the Executive Committees of New York Botanical Garden and the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. He is also the Honorary Trustee of the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation, Founding Trustee of the Philecology Trust (est. 1986) and Philecology Foundation (est. 2007).
