According to author JW Cherry, "Those who participated in the civil rights movement of the 60's and specifically in the March on Selma did not have the full right to vote. They knew the value and power of the vote so much that they offered their bodies and lives in order to gain the privilege to vote. Today's generation views the vote much more casually, as was demonstrated by the 2010 and 2014 mid- term election participation."
In 2008, 61 percent of the population participated in the Presidential elections, which placed President Obama in the White House. The 2010 midterm election only showed a participation rate of 41 percent of the population. The question must be asked, "Where did 20 percent of the registered voters disappear to?"
