Berkeley-Born Playwright, Actress Returns to Berkeley to Perform Autobiographical Play

 

Berkeley, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/23/2015 -- First-time playwright Neecole Cockerham tells a coming of age story filled with the truths about living life based on the hand you're dealt. The show is character driven, modeled after the people that brought Cockerham'sown lessons to life. She opens a Pandora's Boxas she tells a revealing account of her success while appearing in more than 100 national commercials and exposes what lies beneath the surface of personal failures and the opulent Hollywood lifestyle. The show, penned over a span of 8 years, recounts her journey to embrace life and find inner peace and bridges to a family tragedy striking her greatest fears. The show weaves effortlessly in and out of life's sometimes comical, sometimes taxing situations and the obligatory consequences that follow.

"(I Am Not My Mother) illuminates the struggle of not wanting to be your parent, It's something that every kid goes through at a certain point in life when you are finding out who you are as a person." says playwright and actress Neecole Cockerham.

The actress is excited about performing in her hometown. When asked why she chose to do the play in Berkeley she said, "The prodigal daughter returns and no matter where you go in the world there is no place like home."

About Neecole Cockerham
Berkeley-born actress Neecole Cockerham studied Acting for Television at Cal State Northridge under the consummate professional, Lillian Lehman. Additionally, she studied with Eden Harmon at Estelle Harmon's Acting School and the acting for television program at W.P.C. in New Jersey. While on the east coast she established herself as a valuable player onstage at the Ian Ziering sponsored Black box Theatre, It has produced "For Colored Girls Who Consider Suicide When the Rainbow Wasn't Enuf" (Ntozake Shange). The notoriety of Cockerham's performances also landed her a reprise of one scene at "Crossroads" at the Ruby Dee and Ozzie Davis Playhouse.

Her other projects include: promos for E!'S "Chelsea Lately" show (co-star); MTV'S "Faking The Video" (role of Omarion's of B2K's manager); NBC's "Significant Others" (co-star); WB's "Do Over"; ESPN's "The Life" (pilot). And the most recent role of the sidesplitting La Noca Hill In "Jesus' Secretary which has garnered Neecole a Best Actress nod from the Cellesty International Film Festival.
