Infosec Rock Star: Geek Will Only Get You So Far, Guide Released

Newmarket, NH -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/28/2015 -- The "Infosec Rock Star: Geek will only get you so far" guide designed to build critical non technical skills in security personnel and turn them into "Rock Star" performers is now available from The Infosec Rock Star Project.

Most information security people are known for their technical skills and little else. Effective communication, leadership, working well with others, creativity, time and project management, and many other critical success skills are rarely strong points. "We do not lack people with strong technical skills; we have them in droves. What we need are people with strong technical skills who are extremely effective, and that requires more than just Geek Skills," says Ted Demopoulos, the founder of The Infosec Rock Star Project. "We need more Rock Stars in Infosec!"

Demopoulos uses the common "Rock Star" definition of "renowned or revered in their field." He claims that merely being technically great, commonly referred to as "geek," is not enough to have enormous positive influence or success. "We have enough geek. While you can never be too technical, there are other skills that are essential and not difficult to learn," he claims. These are the skills that can turn a great technical person into an incredibly effective performer or "Rock Star."
