Millions of Ambulatory Care Visits Associated with the High Prevalence of Arthritis

Portland, OR -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/30/2015 -- Many people associate arthritis with painful joints, but few realize just how much the condition can affect the quality of life of sufferers. There are many undesirable consequences of suffering from arthritis, including physical limitations, disability and loss of employment. Frequent hospital visits are also common, creating a huge financial burden on those with the condition and their families.

In 2013, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 52.5 million adults in the United States had been doctor-diagnosed with some form of arthritis. A similar report also suggested that millions of ambulatory care visits were also associated with the high prevalence of arthritis.

"It is so unfortunate that arthritis sufferers have to pay such a high price for having the condition. Not only do they lose their mobility and freedom, they also risk losing their jobs at a time when they may have to spend large sums of money on doctor and hospital visits," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

Arthritis patients are prone to accidents, injuries and fractures. They often suffer from pain, swelling and inflammation that hinders them from doing common things such as walking, reaching a book, or cleaning the house. In 2006, it was found that an estimated 50.3 million ambulatory care visits were due to arthritis.

The National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey found that around 44.2 million hospital visits were made by individuals who were diagnosed with arthritis and other rheumatic conditions. These visits included those made by patients in acute care hospital outpatient centers, emergency departments and physician offices.

Experts suggest that people diagnosed with arthritis should practice preventive measures to better manage their condition. These measures include weight management, practicing regular exercises, and maintaining a healthy diet.

Another popular choice for sufferers is the use of natural. Glucosamine supplements are believed to be effective in increasing the glucosamine levels in the body, which is believed to significantly help relieve pain and improve the mobility in arthritis patients. Health experts recommend glucosamine supplements that also contain chondroitin, turmeric and MSM for added benefit (http://www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
