Coops and Cages Supports GlobalGiving Fundraising Project for Palomacy's Domestic Birds

GlobalGiving will be matching donations to Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions up to $1,000 per donor at 30%. Coops and Cages urges animal lovers and advocates to support the cause.

Carlton, VIC -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/26/2015 -- From 6 a.m. until noon or until funds run out on March 18, 2015, donations made to Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions online through the charity fundraising website, GlobalGiving, will earn a bonus match. GlobalGiving aims to match donations of up to $1,000 per donor at 30%. Proceeds from the fundraising project will go towards Palomacy's expenses in providing veterinary care and placement services for domestic, unreleased doves and pigeons in the San Francisco Bay Area that would otherwise be euthanized. Coops and Cages, a pet enclosures retailer and strong supporter of pet welfare, encourages the animal-loving community to lend a hand to the cause and receive a bonus in return.

Formally called the GlobalGiving Foundation-Save Domestic Pigeons and Doves From Euthanasia project, the project enables Palomacy to continue its campaign of saving hundreds of birds from euthanasia in animal shelters by providing vet care and foster and forever homes. Through the fundraising, the network of volunteers will be able to get across to a wider audience the message that euthanasia is not an alternative to adoption. According to the GlobalGiving website, Palomacy has received over $65,000 of funding to date and needs about $24,000 more to achieve its funding goal of $90,000.

Begun in 2007 by founder Elizabeth Young, then as MickaCoo, Palomacy has saved over 600 birds that would have otherwise been killed in shelters. The volunteer-powered, donation-funded group closes a gap in the animal rescue community by focusing efforts on domestic, unreleasable pigeons and doves, which are often overlooked. According to Palomacy, pigeons and doves are bred to depend on humans for their basic needs. What most people do not realize is that these companion birds are smart and gentle. Today, Palomacy mobilizes supporters and volunteers in publicizing the plight of pigeons and doves. This partnership with GlobalGiving for funding should allow Palomacy to carry on their work.

GlobalGiving aims to be an organization "full of solutions" for a world "full of problems." They offer opportunities for non-profits around the world a chance to raise money for their respective causes. They provide support to solutions managed by innovative, grassroots projects and groups. Through the project, GlobalGiving and Palomacy hope to increase awareness on the problem of euthanizing domestic birds in shelters and gather support for pigeons and doves lined up for euthanasia in shelters.

Meanwhile, Jordan Walker, pet enclosures designer at Coops and Cages and all-around animal enthusiast, voices out the company's support for the project. "The project definitely advances the cause against euthanasia in shelters and allows groups like Palomacy to encourage each one of us in the pet and animal community to be humane. To love animals and provide them with the best care is at the heart of what we do at Coops and Cages. We are moved by the noble goals of this event. It has our total support."
