Online Friends Raise over $11,000 for Fire Victim's Funeral

 

Pittsburgh, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/04/2015 -- Jarod Coonce passed away in a house fire on February 28th, 2015. In only two days, online friends have raised over $11,000 on social media websites to help his family pay for the funeral expenses.

Jarod Coonce, a 30-year old man residing in Topeka, Kansas, passed away tragically and unexpectedly in a house fire on Saturday February 28th, 2015. He touched hundreds of people throughout the world with his charitable efforts, friendship, and kindness. Additionally, he was a moderator of numerous reddit.com subreddit communities, including /r/BreakingBad, /r/TheWalkingDead, /r/Dexter, /r/SciFi, and many more.

With the blessing of Jarod's family, a fellow reddit user and friend of Jarod's, Alexander Rhodes from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, started a fundraising campaign on gofundme.com to help the family offset the funeral expenses.

With the help of other friends, including Rick Carr, Sarah Aufiero, and Mike Reives, as well as many reddit users, Jarod's fundraising announcements reached the #1 spot on several sections of the website. Within 24 hours, the campaign raised over $9,000 to offset the family's funeral expenses. Currently 652 people have donated $11,431, and the numbers continue to climb. The goal of the crowdfunding campaign is the entire cost of Jarod's funeral, $13,182.16.
