The Humphrey Matrix 800 is Zeiss' latest innovation in peripheral vision testing as a means of early detection of serious eye conditions such as glaucoma. In giving a quick explanation of how this remarkable device helps his patients, Dr. Prajapati explains, "The Humphrey Matrix 800 by Zeiss is utilized basically to map and check the patient's peripheral or side vision. Since glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve that affects peripheral vision the VFA would pick up any loss of sensitivity in one's side vision if glaucoma is present. "A patient came in citing that one eye had blurry vision with different color contrast for past 1 week versus his other eye. Nothing could be detected during the dilation exam on the retina but when I ran the VFA I saw loss of sensitivity in part of his field of vision. This told me something is either going on beneath the retina or something is going on in the brain. I sent the patient to the retinal specialist for further testing and it revealed swelling and fluid under the retina near the macula. Proper treatment and management were ensued. "
