Abuse: Survival Stories presents I Reclaim My Voice, the inspirational radio show which gives a voice to survivors of abuse, is happy to announce that multitalented singer, dancer and actress Mýa will be making an appearance to discuss childhood bullying.

 

Phoenix, AZ -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/20/2015 -- Featuring compelling stories of survivors sharing their courageous testimonials, this Thursday's Abuse: Survival Stories presents I Reclaim My Voice will be no exception. Grammy Award winning singer Mýa (Lady Marmalade, Chicago) will appear on our March 19th show to discuss healing from childhood bullying and other adversities.

Mýa Harrison is an American hip hop and R&B singer, record producer and actress. In 2002, Harrison won a Grammy Award in the category for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for her rendition of Labelle's 1975 hit "Lady Marmalade", a cover version she recorded alongside Christina Aguilera, rapper Lil' Kim and Pink for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack (2001). She has also launched her own independent record label Planet 9, and competed in Dancing with the Stars – season nine; finishing in second place. Aside from a music career, Harrison branched out into acting, scoring supporting roles in films such as Chicago (winning a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble Cast). In 2009, Billboard listed Mýa as one of their Hot 100 Artists of the 2000s; placing her in the 97th position. As of October 2009, she has sold 3.2 million albums in the United States alone and 7 million albums worldwide.

As a philanthropist, Mýa continues to devote her time and resources to various causes, including becoming the spokesperson for Secret to Self Esteem (1998 - 2001), founding TMATF: The Mýa Arts & Tech Foundation in 2005, and collaborating with the Lifetime Television Network in the Stop Breast Cancer for Life campaign to record "My Bra" a song sold on iTunes with 100% of proceeds to breast cancer research. She has also participated in numerous Revlon Run/ Walks & Susan G. Komen & Habitat for Humanity charitable events. In 2007, from the Global AIDS fight, to aiding homeless LGBT youth via Skool'd, to advocating equality with the NOH8 campaign, Mya also ran the 26.2 mile NYC ING Marathon to raise funds for the world's largest no-kill animal shelter & organization, North Shore Animal League America in 2011. Most recently, Mýa partnered with the Human Rights Campaign for their #LoveConquersHate campaign and currently serves as celebrity ambassador for Africare addressing health, economic development, women's empowerment & youth engagement.
