Marilyn Henrion Launches Kickstarter Program to Publish Book on Her Art

For 40 years, Marilyn Henrion has been creating and exhibiting critically acclaimed works of art in various media. Now, the octogenarian has launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring attention to her work and allow individuals to read about her exciting artistic journey in her new, illustrated book.

New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/26/2015 -- Marilyn Henrion is in her 80s but is still producing vibrant, exciting works of art on a regular basis.  For the past 40 years, this woman has been creating art in a variety of media that has brought her international acclaim.  Now, she has launched a Kickstarter campaign at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2013674776/get-a-life-grandma to fund a book about her life and work.

This inspirational book will document Marilyn's life and work, showing the world her incredible use of color and the wide range of media and techniques she uses to create her art. Meticulous needlework is the essential element in most of her pieces, and Marilyn notes that her needlecraft "celebrates the irregular and intimate quality of things made by the human hand."

According to Marilyn, she cannot resist the "studio's siren call."  When she is in her studio, "I'm in a state of bliss, totally absorbed in the creative process, often ten hours a day, seven days a week."  Now, her illustrated book will explain her life and the work that has earned her honor from the Smithsonian Institution as well as being exhibited in museums around the world.  This 250-page illustrated book will also include biographical and critical essays by prominent writers such as Janet Koplos, contributing editor for Art In America and co-author of Makers: A History of American Studio Craft, and Patricia Malarcher, former editor of Surface Design Journal. The book will be published through a division of Amazon.

Funds raised through the Kickstarter campaign will be used to print at least 100 first-run copies of the book as well as to pay for design and layout services.  Any additional funds beyond the original goal will be used to mount a concurrent retrospective exhibit at Noho Gallery in New York City and in other venues.

A wide range of donation levels are available, with prizes such as a free signed copy of the book at $50, an original hand-stitched work of art at $300 and discounts of up to 50 percent on many of Marilyn's works.  All pieces will be shipped ready-to-hang with frame and hardware included.
