London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/31/2015 -- UK natural stone paving suppliers, London Stone, have recently commented on the works which have been undertaken in Manchester to improve the quality of the city centre network, using Yorkstone for consistency and quality.
The Metrolink was disrupted between the 14th and the 21st of February, with work focused on Victoria Station to redevelop the area.
Market Street is also set to see change, with the three small bus shelters set to be removed, with one single bus shelter spanning the entire platform to replace it. Yorkstone will also be used to provide consistency between platforms, as the new Deansgate-Castlefield stop used Yorkstone for the platform too.
Transport for Greater Manchester's Metrolink director, Peter Cushing, said, 'Market Street is one of the busiest stops on the tram network and is the next in line for a new look. As there's no room to expand it, we are keen to make sure the platform is as streamlined and easy to move around as possible while still offering shelter from the elements.'
Work on the Market Street platform will being in spring 2015, the redevelopment part of the £1.5 billion spent on the Metrolink network.
The work affected transport between the 14th and 21st, with passengers travelling to Bury, Oldham or Rochdale, having to use replacement buses situated at Crumpsall, Central Park, Piccadilly Gardens and Shudehill.
