Melody Dawn Talks with John W. James About the 6 Myths of Grief on Fifty Shades of Grief on VoiceAmerica's Empowerment Channel

Phoenix, AZ -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/18/2015 -- On her global talk radio show, Fifty Shades of Grief, Host Melody Dawn talks about the 6 Myths of Grief and the Grief Recovery Method with John W. James, founder of the Grief Recovery Institute and co-author of several books, including: the Grief Recovery Handbook, When Children Grieve, Moving On, Grief Recovery Handbook for Pet Loss and Moving Beyond Loss. John offers 37 years of experience leading people through the Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program. In this episode, we talk about the 6 myths, and how they do nothing to support grief recovery.

The majority of incorrect ideas about dealing with loss can be summed up in six myths which are so common that nearly everyone recognizes them.

Most people have never questioned whether or not they are valid. The 6 myths are: Time heals all wounds, Grieve alone, Be strong, Don't feel bad, Replace the loss, and Keep busy. Looking at the myth that "time heals" creates the idea that a person just has to wait and they will feel better. We have known people who had waited 10, 20, 30, and 40 years, and still haven't felt better. We know that they would tell you that not only had time not healed them, but that it had compounded the pain. The other five myths carry equally unhelpful messages. John W. James will give you the 37 year time-tested truth that these 6 myths do nothing to support you in your grief recovery. Incomplete recovery from grief can have a lifelong negative effect on the capacity for happiness. The Grief Recovery Method offers grievers the specific actions needed to move beyond loss.
