Jumpstart Magazine Launches 'Coworking with Baby Day' in Hong Kong, Urges International Support by Global Coworking Community

Entrepreneurial magazine Jumpstart has launched “Coworking with Baby Day” in Hong Kong in a bid to support parent-entrepreneurs.

Hong Kong, China -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/10/2015 -- The Challenge of Enterpreneurship & Child-Care

Work-life balance is incredibly challenging for any working parents and perhaps even more so for entrepreneurs with young children. Few child-care options are available for those under 24 months old, and the parent whose work is arguably more flexible (the entrepreneur) may take on child-care during the first few years. This most likely means networking and coworking are no longer an option, since these places don't traditionally welcome children. Recognizing this challenge, a number of coworking spaces globally have created on-site childcare facilities – such already exist in the US, UK and Japan, and more are slated to open in coming years. However, most entrepreneurs don't have access to these spaces, and miss out on business opportunities.

The Birth of "Coworking with Baby Day"

Jumpstart's initiative recognises that it would be a big undertaking for existing coworking spaces to create dedicated childcare facilities. Instead, "Coworking with Baby Day" involves only one day a week where a conference room will be used to host babies and care-givers, while the parent is able to network, hold meetings and stay active within the entrepreneurial community.

The initiative launched in May 2015, and three coworking spaces in Hong Kong already pledged their support.

- CoCoon: Every Friday, $300 HKD Day Pass available for members and non-members. hkcocoon.org
- The Loft: Every Monday, $40 HKD per hour or daily rate of $180 HKD. theloft.com.hk
- Tuspark: Every Tuesday, $150 HKD Day Pass available for members and non-members. tuspark.hk

What's in it for Coworking Spaces?

In addition to attracting a new segment of potential members, coworking spaces can monetize with services such as CPR, cooking, hygiene classes, and other programs that can benefit caretakers who may accompany parents and their kids. Simply put, "Coworking with Baby Day" allows coworking spaces to create new demand for their facilities while enabling parent entrepreneurs to remain an integral part of the startup community.
