Boston, MA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/08/2014 -- Sun care is highly dependent on the tourism industry and with the recent political unrest, tourism figures have dropped to record lows. Whilst there was a slight recovery of tourist arrivals in early 2013 due to an increase in package holiday deals to the region, growth was marginal. After the revolution in 2011, volume sales of sun care dropped by 3%, and whilst 2012 saw a 17% increase in the number of tourist arrivals, sun care volume sales only increased by 1%. Volume sales for 2013 only saw a 1% increase as well, indicating that growth will continue to be marginal until the tourism industry recovers.
Beiersdorf is still the number one brand on the market despite its price due to the lack of options on the market for foreigners visiting Egypt. The strength of the Nivea Sun brand on a global scale appeals greatly to tourists, as they are aware of the brand and understand that it is of a relatively high quality. Furthermore, the Nivea brand has established itself in other categories in beauty and personal care, further reiterating its reliability as a trusted brand. Beiersdorf lost two percentage points whilst main competitor, Garnier Ambre Solaire of L'Oreal Groupe remained relatively the same.

Sun care should return to normal levels and benefit from an increase in tourist arrivals during the forecast period with tourist arrival figures set to see a CAGR of 7%. By 2017, arrival numbers are expected to reach 14.2 million.
