Royal Chevrolet is proud to introduce the capabilities of OnStar to the Richmond, Virginia area. In order to use OnStar, drivers must first activate the service. This is done by pressing the blue OnStar button found on the rearview mirror. This will connect the driver to an advisor who will activate the three-month trial.

Once OnStar has been activated, owners can use the service to obtain turn-by-turn navigation. Drivers simply press the button, tell the advisor where they need to go, and receive the most up-to-date route to the location. Hands-free calling is enabled by again pressing the OnStar button, saying the phone number out loud, and being connected without ever touching a cell phone. In addition to high-tech conveniences, OnStar also delivers top-notch safety and security. Its Stolen Vehicle service uses GPS to locate exactly where the stolen vehicle is. OnStar can also block ignition so that the car cannot be restarted once it is stopped.

If a driver experiences a flat tire or runs out of gas, OnStar provides Roadside Assistance. OnStar’s Remote Services are even more convenient because they can performed over the phone. A driver who has been locked out of their car simply has to call OnStar, confirm their identity, and a signal with be sent to unlock the car. Similarly, owners can call OnStar when they have lost their vehicle in a parking lot. OnStar will signal the car’s horn and lights, making it easier for the owner to locate their car.

In the event of a crash, OnStar provides automatic crash response. When crash sensors within a Chevy car go off, OnStar’s representatives are automatically notified. They again use GSP technology to find the car’s location and send an ambulance. In addition, OnStar can extract information about the crash’s severity and provide this information to the emergency responders.

OnStar knows there are other times than a crash when driver’s need emergency assistance. This is why they also offer a red emergency button which can pressed in the event of a medical emergency, when a driver witnesses someone else crash, or if a missing child or wanted vehicle is located. OnStar’s team will send the emergency help that is needed and will stay on the line until the units arrive.

Finally, OnStar takes the guess work out of vehicle maintenance. Every month OnStar performs hundreds of diagnostic tests on the car’s engine, transmission, stability control system, airbags, emissions, brakes, and tires. An email is then sent to the car’s owner, detailing any problems or issues detected.
