Philadelphia, PA -- (ReleaseWire) -- 07/17/2014 -- Children are the future and it is important that the current generation takes into account their growing needs. Liberia has many schools where children are often denied the nutritional support they need via midday meals. This is unfortunate as many children go hungry and therefore, fail to attend school. Ms. Ida Bormentar & Marlee Doe, executive members of the Passion for Development organization wish to bring about a change by introducing their already successful ‘Share your Plate’ program all throughout Liberia.
The program which was launched on 2nd May 2014 in God of Mercy school in Liberia was an initiative of the Passion for Development organization which aims to address the growing concern of hunger among school going children. The launch of the program was also a result of extensive research and investigation which concluded that school children in the country often go hungry throughout the day as they get to have only one meal a day which hampers the nutritional requirements of these children.
The midday meal concept which is a big part of the ‘Share your Plate’ program helps bridge this alarming gap in nutrition while making sure children don’t skip school because of the problem of not having access to a midday meal. “We need to have Liberian children fed well in order to improve their life-cycle development and improve their performance in school work. Our vision is to have all children attend schools and not miss out due to lack of midday meal,“ Marlee Doe.
The initiative was well appreciated by the president of Liberia, H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who met with Ida and Marlee to discuss the participation of the organization and its goals.
About Share your Plate program
‘Share your Plate’ program is a wonderful initiative of the Passion for Development organization which wishes to spread awareness about the importance of food and nutrition in the life of a young child. The concept has been developed to address the increasingly disturbing reality of Liberian school going children being denied the benefits of a well-balanced meal to support healthy development of the body and the mind.
